You’ll be drawing one of these adorable birds in no time with this step-by-step guide to drawing a chicken in 8 easy steps.

How to Draw A Chicken

Step 1

To kick off this tutorial on how to draw a chicken, let’s start with something every chicken needs: a beak!

To add a beak to your chicken design, start with a rounded shape with a slight point to the left. Once the beak is drawn, we can move on to the next step!

Step 2

With the beak of your finished chicken drawing, you can start drawing a head for it. First, draw a long, curved line protruding from the top of the beak.

Then add another curved line coming out from below. Finally, draw a wavy line in between for a feathery look.

Step 3

In the next step of our instructions on how to draw a chicken, we will add a wing. This wing will have curved and wavy lines, as the reference image shows.

It extends just below the head and neck you drew in the previous step, and the image gives you an idea of how far back it should reach.

Step 4

Chickens have distinctive body shapes; we will try to replicate this at this stage of your chicken drawing.

To draw your chicken’s body, use a few curved lines from the front of the neck to the back of the wing.

Make sure to leave a wavy shape at the bottom of the body, to which we’ll attach the legs later.

Step 5

In the next step of our How to Draw a Chicken guide, we will add some more distinctive details. First, use a line in the beak to give your chicken a smiling mouth.

Next, use curved lines on your chicken’s back to give it a nice feathered tail!

Finally, we add a thigh design to your chicken. These will consist of curved and straight lines to form the legs and feet as they appear in the image.

The legs will emerge from the shapes we left on the chicken’s lower body in the previous step.

Step 6

Your chicken is now coming together correctly! However, it would hardly look like a chicken without some facial details, so we’ll add those in this step.

You can use a circle inside a slightly larger circle to shape the corn. You could change the eye details slightly if you want a different expression!

Then you can use curved lines to draw the wave below the beak and the chicken’s crest above the head. Next up are the final details!

Step 7

Since your chicken drawing is almost complete, you only have to add a few minor details to complete the drawing before you continue coloring.

First, we added curved line details to the chicken to create a feathered look.

We added some lines to the chicken’s wings and tail for more feather texture.

Finally, you can use lines on the legs to give them some texture!

These details look good, but feel free to add something perfect for your drawing!

Step 8

The last step of this How to Draw a Chicken tutorial is one of the funniest ever!

Your drawing needs beautiful colors to bring it to life. So this is your chance to show us how creative you can be!

For our example, we showed you how we would color it, but feel free to use any of your favorite colors!

Do you keep the more realistic colors to make it look like a real chicken, or let your imagination run wild and add some bright colors to your chicken?

The possibilities are endless, and once you’ve chosen your colors, you have to decide which fun art tools and mediums to use to complete your artwork!

Your Chicken Drawing is Finished!
